The Supporting Handwriting Devleopment section aims to develop a whole-school understanding of the foundational writing skills, recognising that for the majority of children, handwriting will not be “automatic” until the middle of primary school. The professional learning is in two parts, designed so that schools would begin with Part 1, providing time inbetween Part 1 and Part 2 to develop aspects in practice, and time after Part 2 to further develop principles into practice prior to moving on to another aspect of the whole-school literacy, language and communication toolkit.
