A creative opportunity…

ShortStory

Can you write a story in 50 words? Why not get the pupils to give it a go! The Scottish Book Trust’s ’50 Word Fiction Competition’ deadline is on Monday 20th May. The competition is a great way of providing children with the task to engage with their audience, providing detail, whilst working with a limited word count. I like the thought of a 50 word short story! Great way to focus on organization and ideas – thanks for this!
Do you know if there is a calendar of all these competitions? Just thinking it would be great to have a year at a glance on the blog so you know what’s coming and when…

I did it with my class last year, and the pupils really enjoyed it. Many of them approached it by choosing to write through the genre of a riddle, building suspense, using the last few words to ’round up’ their piece.

I’m not sure about the calendar of events – but I will be on the hunt to see what I can find.
