The Addressing Dyslexia Toolkit (Dyslexia Scotland) has great CPD and Professional Learning resources. It contains a suite of CPD materials which can be used individually or with staff. Activity 4 includes a PowerPoint which can be used to introduce the resource to staff. Similar to the PowerPoints within the Literacy Toolkit, the resource contains notes for the facilitator. We will be looking at this resource as a group to see how we can weave it into our current training programmes.

Speedy Sounds
CLICK THE IMAGE ABOVE FOR SPEEDY SOUNDS RESOURCES
At the Supply Teachers’ Literacy Training last week, we were delivering some of the Phonic games which had been rolled out on the original HLP phased training and the Probationer Training. A popular game from this training was Speedy Sounds, and we suggested sharing the resources to a wider audience on the blog. Speedy Sounds – Known sounds are written on a sheet/whiteboard. Children work with a partner to point and read the sounds quickly. This could also be an everyday exercise, adding more sounds as they are taught. Progression could be to write the sounds. A copy could be sent home to parents to play together to reinforce the sounds learnt. CLICK HERE for twenty different Speedy Sounds template boards that you can use when teaching/revisiting phonic patterns.

The Literacy Toolkit is expanding . . .
Following the ‘Introduction to the Literacy Toolkit’ training during the February inset, new resources have been added to support the delivery of the Literacy Toolkit.
The first is Learning and Teaching – A Focus on Writing. The objective of this PPT is to explore the ‘Learning and Teaching – A Focus on Writing’ guidelines to improve attainment in writing by fostering high quality learning experiences as described in the Writing Self-Evaluation Check-list.
The second is a resource which can be used to support The Literacy Hub concept within Highland schools.
We hope you find these resources useful, and welcome feedback on their effectiveness in enhancing Literacy and English within Highland schools.
